My Platoon Sergeant, SFC Henkes, was killed yesterday. I was only a hundred meters away. I can't go into details. The loss is great and it has been very difficult for all of us. We will continue on, but never forget him. The emotions I can't explain.

Stephen: Please know that many of your friends back home are thinking of you. It's hard to imagine what you are going through but this site helps us understand a bit. I am a friend of your parents. I am a lawyer in Gainesville. Your brother worked in my office for awhile before he had surgery and headed off to law school. Your mom gave me the blog website and I've been checking in every so often. Until now, I did not feel compelled to comment. Take care and know that you are in our thoughts. Melissa Murphy

Nephew, I remember how close I was to my NCO's when I was in the army. I'm sure it was a tremendous blow to you and all your men. Sgt Henkes family is in my prayers, as are you and all those in harm's way. BE SAFE!!!

Steve, I was saddened to hear about SFC Henke. I know that you have lost a great friend, a mentor, and a big brother. Words are not adequate to express the emotions that you feel at such a time. I will write you more when I get your email address. This afternoon I will be out riding horses listening to the Gators beat UCF on the radio while you and your men are fighting for our freedom. My heartfelt appreciation and love for your service. No one understands the cost of that service until they have been there. Deepest regards, Jack Brown
