My Platoon Sergeant, SFC Henkes, was killed yesterday. I was only a hundred meters away. I can't go into details. The loss is great and it has been very difficult for all of us. We will continue on, but never forget him. The emotions I can't explain.

Stephen: Please know that many of your friends back home are thinking of you. It's hard to imagine what you are going through but this site helps us understand a bit. I am a friend of your parents. I am a lawyer in Gainesville. Your brother worked in my office for awhile before he had surgery and headed off to law school. Nephew, I remember how close I was to my NCO's when I was in the army. I'm sure it was a tremendous blow to you and all your men. Sgt Henkes family is in my prayers, as are you and all those in harm's way. BE SAFE!!!

Steve, I was saddened to hear about SFC Henke. I know that you have lost a great friend, a mentor, and a big brother. Words are not adequate to express the emotions that you feel at such a time. I will write you more when I get your email address. This afternoon I will be out riding horses listening to the Gators beat UCF on the radio while you and your men are fighting for our freedom.
