We were knee deep in Ashura, a religious period for the Shia sect. Alot of people everywhere. I saw people beating themselves. I believe it was to honor Husayn, but if I'm wrong, then I am. Interesting though...

Just talked with your Uncle Jere after reading a few days of your excellent reporting - the only things left our are the sounds and smells! Also, from your blog I have a much better appreciation of what you and your men go through on a daily basis - very scary to say the least. Our families go back a long way - my wife grew up about a block from your Mom's house in Lighthouse point - and we've know the Rawls since about 1963 or earlier. But, like Jere and Nancy - graduated from the girls college in Tallahassee - please be safe - you all are our daily prayers. Dave Cribbs
